Boss Lady

She worked hard, checked the boxes that seemed right

Yet the higher she climbed, the more roadblocks she had to fight

She kept trying to enter rooms in which she was not welcome

Ignored by most, snubbed off by a few, politely heard by some

She tried to pitch her ideas to movers and shakers in the industry anyway

Determined to make her dreams see the light of the day

But at the door of the proverbial room she remained

A seat at the table in those hallowed rooms she could not gain

*

After being unsuccessful repeatedly she decided enough was enough

If having a noticeable presence in those rooms was tough

She was going to build rooms of her own

This was not something she could do alone-

She selected her compadres with utmost care

She needed a tribe she could trust, she was aware

*

Slowly her ideas began to take a shape concrete

To get her project off the ground was no ordinary feat

There were tense moments and sleepless nights

Ten things went wrong for the one thing that turned out right

But the village that she had built around her

Supported her unwaveringly in her endeavor

*

Today she is widely considered the epitome

Of a “boss lady”, she heads a multinational company

She is well-respected for her unique perspective

On running a business, but the credit for her success she gives

To those who had excluded her in the beginning

They had made her chart her own path for winning
