In Praise of the Corner Bookstore

Independent bookstores are making a comeback, I read

It warmed by heart, the charm of quaint bookstores is not yet dead

*

A bookstore where each book is personally curated to showcase

Books by local authors and on subjects of interest to the local populace

Where each new book on the shelf has a story behind

How it got there, perhaps it was a serendipitous find

By the owner, who would love to engage in conversation

About the books in the store, give potential buyers interesting information

That would be missing if you bought from a large chain

This is one reason, among many, why independent bookstores should remain

Present in our communities, where readers like me

Can browse through old and new books endlessly

  1. We have one indie bookstore in town that has been going strong for upwards of 20 years. Fabulous community support keeps it in business. I see Pat Conroy there. I have every one of his books.

    1. If you want something local, something of interest to the local community, then head to the indie bookstore in town! Besides books, I also like to pick up locally printed stationery, cards made by local artists etc. from the local indie bookstores. The chains have predictable books- the same ones everywhere.
