Is it true or is it my flawed perception here
But I have noticed in the past few years
A steady deterioration of quality
In pretty much everything around me..
*
I wonder if we as a society are allowing our standards to fall
Does the quality of what we produce not matter at all
Research, news articles, material goods, education
In every sphere I see a gradual deterioration
In our capabilities, do we no longer believe
Our very best do we not want to achieve?
*
I worry once lower standards become the norm
Lower would be the pressure on us to conform
To the higher standards established before
And quality would deteriorate more
*
The global pandemic was a good excuse
For reduction in quality, but it can no longer be used
To continue producing work that is subpar
Instead of letting standards slide, we need to raise the bar..
*
This is a reminder to myself that I should not let
The quality of my work suffer, lower standards I should not accept…

Oh, yes–definitely quality has gone down. Maybe part of it is we ourselves are so worn down that it is hard to muster the urge to bring quality into anything we do. I don’t know, but something is going on, and has for a while now.

Yes. I was actually thinking about research in the medical field and how I have noticed deteriorating quality since 2020- my colleague and I were reminiscing over the last time our research meeting was actually good, and it was 2019. Then our conversation shifted to our business casual attire and we realized the quality of clothing had gone down too- it prompted me to write this verse. (Of course, this is not the first time I have thought about this).
