As a book worm I sat thinking one day
How does a great story carve its way
Into a reader’s mind and heart
How, of the reader, it becomes a part
There are a few things I’ve realized
A book leaves room to be surprised,
Its characters are somehow hopelessly flawed-
Superheroes are boring, imperfection we applaud
But their lives are far from ordinary
Embellishments to the characters are necessary
A good book usually tries to delve in
The darker realm of desires forbidden-
Emotions that spell danger when verbalized
Find safe expression in print, are rarely criticized
A good story includes, in generous measure
Love and its shades of pain and pleasure
A good plot that keeps readers on tenterhooks
A dramatic ending to make it the queen of all books
All made cohesive by words woven together
Such that you live vicariously the life of the character
On reaching the last page when you experience
Wistfulness, like a fabulous journey has reached its end
That is when you know that the book you just read
Was a masterpiece to be cherished and acknowledged.
