Time and Attention

You are trying to tell me something that happened today

You are excited, there is a lot that you want to say

I am trying to share your enthusiasm, but I am tired

At the end of the day, while you are fully wired

I tune you out as I mentally plan for the day ahead

I honestly can’t remember a word of what you’ve said

You ask me a question, bringing me out of my reverie

Having received an answer, you retreat to your room, satisfied with me

*

Every evening I have limited time to spend with you

Moments with you are precious, it’s true

All you are craving for is my attention

And to give that to you, undivided, should be my intention

*

There is a lot I can give you but nothing can compare

With the gift of my time and attention, the moments I share

With you are priceless, I must treat them as sacred indeed

If I am paying attention to you, I can anticipate your needs..
