Writing with pen and paper

I almost never write on paper, I just type everything out

Or use voice notes, a convenience these days I cannot do without

If I pick up a pen, it is either to draw or to sign my name

My penmanship has deteriorated, for which my profession is partly to blame

Sometimes I scribble notes in the margin when a printed article I read

In order to remember the salient points I need

To write them down the old-fashioned way

Like I used to in school, day after day

*

Research has shown that writing on paper activates

Different parts of the brain at once, and integrates

Divergent neural pathways such that memories are consolidated

Therefore the practice of writing in longhand which seems outdated

Should be revived- with this thought in mind

Motivation to write in a journal I have tried to find

But I forget to carry my journal with me

And end up typing on my phone invariably

*

As I type out this verse, I silently resolve

To write on a sheet of paper tomorrow, in writing I need to devolve..
