Morning Pages- Are they for me?

A subtle nudge the universe seems to be giving me

These days, wherever I look, something about morning pages I see

*

For the uninitiated, morning pages is a daily writing habit where you pour

Your stream-of-consciousness thoughts onto three pages every morning before

You’ve had a chance to begin your actual day

This journalistic practice was popularized in the book “The Artist’s Way”

Those who practice it supposedly vouch for its efficacy

In providing focus, direction and mental clarity

*

Why three pages, and why in the morning are some questions that come to my mind

When I contemplate incorporating this practice in my day- I am inclined

To give the morning pages a shot, but to carve out

Time for yet another practice in the morning is daunting, no doubt

*

What would it be like to wake up and commit my unfiltered thoughts

To paper, would the content of my morning pages be fraught

With anxiety and despair or would it have a hopeful tone

Until I indulge in the practice, these answers would remain unknown

Would my writing evolve in clarity or content

If I stick to this habit to some extent?

*

Morning pages are calling out to me

It is time to start this practice evidently

      1. I imagine you’ll know when you know. I’ve been journaling for years, carry it around with me everywhere. Go to Marshalls all the time looking for those 3-packs for cheap. They’re piling up, for sure! So it’s at the bedside, in the work bag, in the purse–a ready receptacle for any idea and/or all of that stream of consciousness in the AM’s! 😀 My practice fell off for a while, but if I get up early enough, tomorrow, will be day 650. 🙂 Have fun! 😀
