Room for Errors

Close to ninety percent of the verses that I write

Are uninspired, insipid, based on ideas not particularly bright

Of all the artwork that I create with expectations high

A substantial proportion has glaring flaws, no matter how hard I try

Most of my creative work would not pass muster before someone with expertise

With practice, I expect my proficiency to increase

But I can afford to write poorly, draw and paint in an amateurish fashion

Because my creativity is purely for self-expression..

*

Exactly opposite is the expectation in my professional sphere

I must meet established standards, to quality measures adhere

There is little room for error at work, but my creative outlets give me

To make innumerable mistakes, unlimited ability

*

By working consistently I can improve my creative expression

But I must work harder to stay proficient in my profession

When work keeps me within strict confines

Art gives me the figurative freedom to color outside the lines..
