In an article offering writers advice in the age of AI
The one suggestion amongst several that caught my eye
Was to learn how to write humor because AI is not yet proficient
At grasping cultural innuendos delivered with a humorous intent
The fine line between sarcasm and offense AI cannot see
It relies on existing jokes and algorithms obviously
While AI can probably deliver a clever punchline
To read humor crafted by AI I am not inclined

All the nuances, subtleties, cultural references that infuse
Writing with real humor would possibly confuse
Current large language models- though they keep getting trained
One step ahead of AI it would be hard to remain
Humor that relies on puns and wordplay
Would be easy for AI to master anyway
Complex forms such as dark humor and satire
More humanistic input likely requires..

The competition with AI in writing is intense
The only thing we can do is to write from lived experience
This is so disheartening. Write with AI, let AI alter your photos. Are we not to learn anything without AI’s help/interference?
Years ago I was at a Toastmaster’s speech contest and a participant was disqualified because her speech was taken from an online source–with a few subtle changes. I wonder how you could tell if AI wrote the entire thing. So much for originality…
