Don’t Judge your Old Work..

I began to try my hand at art nearly a decade ago

I was happy to share my creations with others, to show

What I could do, the artwork is still posted on social media for everyone to see

But when I look at it now, I cringe inwardly

And wonder what I was thinking in those days

Broadcasting my artwork that was subpar in every way

*

I am still an amateur and I tend to make

An embarrassing number of rookie mistakes

But overall my artwork is more presentable

I have my own style I bring to the table

I have a long way to go but quite far I have come

From a dilettante, an artist I think I have become

*

When you cringe at seeing your earlier work, because it feels immature

When you are embarrassed by how bad you were before

Compared to where you are in your journey now

Just take a pause, re-examine your creation and allow

Yourself to feel accomplished, admire your progress you have made

Pat yourself on your back for trusting the process
