Desert

A desert is a place without expectation.

NADINE GORDIMER, Telling Times

Stark, limitless, unforgiving

Harsh, austere, terrorizing

Marked by crystal silence

Life declaring its presence

In the form of skeletons preserved

Under the undulating dunes submerged

Sand stretched out in myriad shades

Interrupted by a few random blades

Of burnt grass, or a solitary tree

The sky stretched out like the vast sea

The merciless sun burning relentlessly

Staging illusions-mirages ruthlessly..

Such is the desert, an endless stretch

Of nature at its unvarnished best

Possessing an ethereal beauty, rare

Showcasing creation in a form bare..
