Thinner, married, employed

As more ubiquitous weight loss drugs, GLP-1s have become

They have brought about pleasant changes for some..

*

These drugs have for weight loss been designed

The profound impact that weight (and weight loss) has on our minds

Is illustrated by an economics research study new

That reveals that after 1.5 years on GLP-1s women are more likely to

Marry if initially single and if unemployed, employment find

What this demonstrates about how women are perceived just blows my mind

*

Perceived attractiveness is tied to weight, we know

But the fact that weight affects employment, especially in women, goes to show

How perceptions about capability are linked to weight

Being overweight for a potential employee is an undesirable trait

*

The optimist in me would like to explain this observation

By stating that weight loss brings about an augmentation

In a woman’s confidence, making her more attractive to employ or date

Then again, societal norms result in confidence being linked to weight

*

As GLP-1s become generic and democratized

With uniform access for everyone, perhaps we would realize

That first impressions based on weight no longer carry as much “weight”

That would be the societal shift I would like to celebrate
