Did I waste my time if I did not learn
Anything from a book that I read, at least nothing that I could discern?
*
I read so many books that I cannot
Remember what I read more often than not
Every book leaves at least some impression
But not all impressions last, in true confession
Sometimes I remember stories, sometimes concepts stay with me
Sometimes entire sentences I commit to memory
It happens more frequently than I would like to admit
That I forget the name of the book, but I still remember some part of it
*
I cannot say if I learn something specific from each book I read
But reading helps me cast a wide net indeed
Such that I increase the breadth of my knowledge without going deep
Interest in various subjects in this way I like to keep
*
I have seen many articles instructing people in how books should be read
Such that time is not wasted and the reader gains worthwhile knowledge instead
I beg to differ, I read books unconditionally
Because reading for me is a necessity
