Slow Down

I came across a piece of advice the other day-

Do your work at half your normal speed- it did say

I read this on a day when I had been propelled

By a sense of urgency greater than usual, I felt compelled

To give this strategy a try at work the following day

I was exhausted from feeling rushed, so a slower pace was welcome anyway

*

The next morning, I sat down at my desk with some coffee

And began my work day unhurriedly

I saw my patients without an eye on the clock

I really listened to them, as I let them talk

Without interruption, I was determined to go slow

How the day would end, I was curious to know

*

I did not feel rushed, I did not feel stressed

Over the passage of time I did not obsess

To stay late that day I was mentally prepared

But time-wise, much better with this approach I had fared

My work was complete much earlier than the prior day

Slowing down had not delayed me in any way..

*

Constantly rushing to get things done

Activates the flight or fight response in everyone

Your stress spills out and affects others around you

Leading to downstream inefficiencies too

*

My nervous system let me regulate

By being slow and deliberate
