Cognitive Offloading

A human brain can keep only four to seven distinct pieces of information

In the working memory at any given time, therefore the accumulation

Of more bits of information does lead

To cognitive overload and diminished mental performance indeed

*

During my work day, I get bombarded invariably

By multiple messages, texts, phone calls, all appearing simultaneously

To keep track of all of them and never miss a single one

Is something easier said than done

I need a way to manage my increasing cognitive overload

I need to switch from a default to a task-focused mode

*

A strategy for cognitive offloading recently I found

It had an impact on me quite profound

It recommended writing everything bothering me, in long hand

Writing with a pen helps one better understand

The order in which problems need to be addressed

With this one step I have been obsessed

But the final part was to fold the paper and put it away

To name the problem and remove it from working memory for the day

*

Tomorrow I shall practice this skill to reduce

My cognitive overload, more brain power choose
