Emerging lifestyle trends always give me something to write about
The one word that represents what I need without doubt
Is “calmcation”- a vacation that focuses entirely
On finding that elusive element of tranquility
*
Not just to escape daily life but to recalibrate
To get off the grid in a mountain cabin, rest and rejuvenate
To take long walks in the lap of nature without the overstimulation
Of e-mails, text messages and endless notifications
*
My calmcation would most certainly include
Reading and writing in quietude
Perhaps I would flex an artistic muscle en plein air
Or, as W. H. Davies longed for- just stand and stare
*
A calmcation may not be what I want, on second thoughts
While traveling I enjoy interacting with people a lot
I like to soak in the sights, sounds and smells of a new place
Overstimulation of this kind I am happy to embrace
*
While people increasingly book calmcations
I don’t mind traveling to popular destinations
A vacation spent even in a bustling city
Is probably enough to rejuvenate me

No calmcation for me, either. On vacation, I want to see and do things!
