Though I love being outdoors, I dread
Mosquitoes that invariably seem to head
In my direction, that never fail to bite
Me in every available spot, despite
The generous (though reluctant) use of bug spray
That does nothing for me, mosquitoes still come my way
*
Of course, the blood group preferred by these insects I possess
So they bite me ferociously, and when I stop to assess
The extent of damage, a robust allergic reaction I see
That lasts for several days unfortunately
*
One of the benefits I thought about when I decided to immigrate
From a tropical to a more temperate climate
Was the paucity of mosquitoes in my adoptive land
At least daily attacks from mosquitoes I would not have to withstand..
*
A witness to many serious illnesses I have been
Carried by mosquitoes, unfavorable consequences I have seen
Each time I scratch my intensely itchy bite
The urge to catastrophize about illness I have to fight
*
There are worse things than being bitten by mosquitoes, of course
But I dislike that to avoid these insects my only recourse
Is to avoid spending summer evenings outdoors
It hampers my quality of life, for sure!
