I had to write a letter of recommendation yesterday
And since requests for those do not often come my way
I thought it would not hurt to take a little assistance
From the ubiquitous tool of artificial intelligence
I wanted to ensure that the beginning and conclusion sounded right
But the AI tool was designed to give me “deeper” insight
It told me the anecdotal arc in the letter was good
At the same time AI suggested that I should
Completely change the tone of the letter
But when I modified my draft to make it in the eyes of AI better
I ended up being completely dissatisfied
Even though I had written it myself, the new version modified
Appeared so generic that nothing stood out in the document
The letter of recommendation did not fulfill its purpose and intent..

I reverted to the original draft, the way it was
Before AI intervention- despite there being minor flaws
It represented what I truly wanted to say
That would hold more weight than a templated AI version any day
Passion...unbridled
