There was a time when you took pictures with care
You had a reel or two earmarked for a vacation, with none to spare
You rationed the number of pictures you took
There was no way for you to look
At the photographs right after they had been clicked
It was not like you could take a couple and later the best one pick
You handed your camera to a stranger with some hesitation
Hoping the picture they took would be good enough for your compilation

These days you take photographs without a second thought
The same place, the same scenery, different poses- restricted you are not
By the constraints that previously existed
There is no self-restraint when you are not constricted
You don’t always take time to compose the best shot
The entire gamut of still photography and film has been brought
In to your pocket and your hand, with the technology current
Taking a picture today is from a few decades ago entirely different

A million pictures during my travels I take
I spend hours deliberately over which ones are good enough to make
The cut on my social media profiles
I edit them with variable results, play with different styles
Despite the plethora of tools available to me
I am dissatisfied with the results frequently
I think in having unlimited choice the problem lies
I wonder if going back to the old technology would be nice..

I asked CoPilot to fix a bird photo I had taken that came out way too blurry. The result…nothing like any photo I would have taken. Picture perfect, National Graphic ready. Filed it away. Nothing I would ever use on my blog even if I said I asked AI to ‘clean it up.’ Way too fake. The old technology was kind of fun. The anticipation of those photos….
