How is it that we are conditioned to believe
That our worth lies in what we achieve
To specific goals we attach our self-esteem
If the goal is not reached, to us it seems
That we are not worthy of love or respect
If the goal is reached, we come to expect
Something better, the goal post keeps moving forward
And we never reach the point of adequate self-worth…
*
We are not what we accomplish, nor what we do
Our worth lies in our existence as human beings, it is true
Our worth is unwavering, immutable, unattached
From other people and things, when ourselves we detach
And accept ourselves as we are, we find
Our self-worth which has been within us confined
