When I saw the title of this challenge, the first image my mind conjured up was of a solo dancer performing the classical Indian dance “Kathak”. It is somewhat similar to flamenco in the energetic foot movements. Unfortunately I have no photographs of any kind of dancer, so I ended up writing this poem. OfContinue reading “Travel theme: Energy”

Living in the past
When you finally let go of the past, something better comes along. I try my best not to cling To ghosts buried in the past Memories of bygone days often bring Resentment that spirals down quite fast Spinning out of control all at once Settling in my mind, on the tip of my tongue Accusations, insults in abundance AllContinue reading “Living in the past”
Anger
Raging fires within Incinerating, burning a hole Rising above the din Of the wailing of my soul Carnage widespread Of the depths of my mind Unfettered, unchecked Fueled by a rage blind.. Such was my anger Fed on envy, greed, pride A thunderous monster Swallowing me with jaws wide. *** The fire died By itselfContinue reading “Anger”
Sunday Stills, the next challenge: Green River
The green waters of the river Are for me like my life’s mirror Life reflected in the water’s flow At times rapid, at times slow, Plunging forward in a waterfall Like my response to a challenging call Or weighed down by silt, lying stagnant Like the drudgery of life, hope dormant Carving its way through hills and valleysContinue reading “Sunday Stills, the next challenge: Green River”
Touch
The touch that sent Ripples through me Was it an accident Or was it meant to be A wordless expression Of love so profound That simmering passion Had an outlet found… The touch that sent me In the throes of torment All by myself and silently I tried to decipher what it had meant Was itContinue reading “Touch”

“You have the right to perform your actions but do not let the fruit be the purpose of your actions, and therefore you won’t be attached to not doing your duty.” -Bhagwad GitaWhen I was young I was taught To go on working without a thought Wasted on the fruits of my labor Fortune, IContinue reading “The prize”
Fate
You often meet your fate on the road you take to avoid it. -French proverb My fate with you was intertwined To be with you I was destined Try as I did to fight my fate Tempting time to stand still and wait While I dabbled in waters new Swimming aimlessly, without a clue Waiting forContinue reading “Fate”
Change
Progress is impossible without change and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything. –George Bernard Shaw Patterns of behavior tend to recur Behavior of others and mine Our responses to stress may differ But in known molds they always align. Life, it seems, for the most part Is lived in a fluid chain OfContinue reading “Change”
Action and Reaction
In this universe every action Has an equal and opposite reaction Centuries ago did Newton claim One of the laws that brought him fame… I feel the truth of this dictum Navigating through life’s humdrum, Where every action that I take Provokes a reaction in its wake Setting in motion a cascade Of consequences hard toContinue reading “Action and Reaction”

Travel theme: Details
The devil, they said Is in the detail I countered, saying instead God’s presence should prevail- God has blessed his creations With subtle details embedded Within clever compilations, Like cloth with a pattern threaded. Tulips, Longwood Gardens near Philadelphia Glass fruits, Corning Museum ofContinue reading “Travel theme: Details”
