“Me Time”

My eyelids droop with the weight of impending sleep

I fight back vehemently, this is the magical hour I want to keep

For myself, because this is the only time in the day

When I am not answerable to anyone else in any way

To indulge in my guilty pleasures I am inclined

I watch fashion videos or window-shop online

Elaborate travel plans I make to exotic destinations

I listen to those songs on repeat that have caught my imagination

The house is quiet, no one is awake this late

My hour of freedom I want to celebrate..

*

Freedom always exacts a price

Therefore it comes as no surprise

That staying up late to enjoy “me time” has a cost

Every day at least an hour of precious sleep is lost

Over time I have accrued a massive sleep debt

With lasting adverse effects that are hard to reset

*

My eyelids are heavy, I cannot stay

Alert enough to enjoy my time alone today..
