Whoever said “love your work and you would not have to work another day“
Must have meant it as a hyperbole, there is no way
That work can feel like a leisure activity all the time
Since paid work comes with constraints and deadlines..
*
I work in a profession where the highs are high
But the lows are low too, no matter how hard I try
The physical and mental load of work weighs me down some days
And I long for an opportunity to break away
I still love my work, but sometimes I need
Distance from my work and workplace indeed
*
In small doses, work may feel like play
But the illusion eventually does fade away
When there are managers to please and targets to keep
Work causes stress, often compromises sleep
Work feels even more work-like then
Every task feels like an additional burden
*
I experienced both in the same day-
The pace of work was excellent in the morning, work felt like play
But in the afternoon, out of the blue several curveballs appeared
Suddenly work acquired the overwhelming quality I fear..
*
Try to find work you enjoy so that at least on occasion
Work feels like something similar to vacation..
